Wave field synthesis (WFS) is a sound projection technique characterized by the creation of virtual acoustic spaces. It creates an apparent sound wave front synthesized by a large number of individually controlled loudspeakers. This creates the illusion that the wave front originates from the virtual point of the sound source. Unlike traditional spatialization techniques such as stereo or surround, the location of the virtual sound sources in WFS does not depend on or change with the listening position.
